An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has sentenced a man, Idowu Lambason, to five years imprisonment for having unlawful carnal knowledge of an 18 year old girl (name withheld) in a bush in Takwa Bay area of Eti Osa, Lagos.
The convict who resides in Adekunle Village, Takwa Bay, was sentenced by Chief Magistrate, Mrs. F. O. Aigbokhaebo after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of willfully tearing the victim’s T-shirt, her shorts and her panties and forcefully had sex with her.
The Police at Takwa Bay Division alleged in the charge sheet that the convict was arrested following a complaint by the girl, who resides in Ijora Badia, that she had been raped by Idowu inside the bush.
She told the police that the incident occurred when her friend, Abbey begged her to escort her to Takwa Bay.
On getting there by boat, she said she fell asleep, while her friend Abbey went to retouch her hair. When she woke up and was looking for where Abbey was retouching her hair, Idowu who lives in the neighbourhood said he knew the shop Abbey went to retouch her hair and he told her to follow him.
While they were going through the bush path, she alleged that Idowu suddenly wrestled her to the ground, tore her clothes, underwear and panties and forcefully had sex with her in the bush.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to raping the victim.
When the charges were read to him, he pleaded guilty to the facts of the matter as presented to the court by the Police prosecutor, Phillip Osijale.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently sentenced him to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.
