An Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted a late-night ex-parte order targeted at persuading the Chairman of the Nigerian electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega to ensure that the name of Henry Seriake Dickson , one of the candidates of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State was included in the list.
This extra ordinary and unexpected order was granted by Justice Olootu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Justice was surrounded by soldiers and policemen deployed by the presidency in case of any attack and contempt of the court.
The petition which was heard and concluded in less than 15 minutes on Wednesday night between 9: 00 -9:15 PM had Mr. Dickson secretly approaching the court over his non inclusion in the list of candidates who were to contest for the Bayelsa Gubernatorial poll even when he had celebrated his victory against the incumbent Governor who is currently vying for re-election.
