NDLEA arrests man with drugs stuffed inside tin tomato

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for alleged drug trafficking. The suspect, identified as Nzeka Chika, who was heading to Malaysia, was caught with over 1.800kg of methamphetamine worth over N5 million, stuffed into tin tomatoes at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos.
he suspect who claimed to be ignorant of death sentence for drug offenders in Malaysia is being interrogated by anti-narcotic agents over unlawful exportation of the drugs. Officers of the agency who made the arrest at the weekend following the discovery of drugs inside tomato paste at Lagos, Nigeria, said the suspect is cooperating with investigators.

According to a source, the drug which was industrially packaged in two big tin tomato containers, clothes and foodstuff was detected during the outward screening of an Egypt Air flight to Malaysia at the Lagos airport . NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar who gave the name of the suspect, as Nzeka Chika, a commercial motorcycle rider in Okigwe, Imo State said he was still under interrogation.

"The two big tin tomato pastes with 1.8kg of methamphetamine were in Nzeka's bag containing clothes and foodstuff like yams, rice, beans, garri and spaghetti. The food items were meant to distract officers from the tomato pastes" Hamza stated.

Mourners Boo, Chase Away Emir Of suleja at funeral mass held for victims of the Christmas Day bomb blast.

There was tension at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State on Wednesday during the funeral mass held for victims of the Christmas Day bomb explosion as the congregation prevented the Emir of Suleija, Alhaji Awal Ibrahim, from entering the church.

The Emir, who was said to have arrived the church at about 11.00am, was booed by the congregation with shouts of “No, no. We don’t want him here.”

Despite the intervention of some priests, the monarch was not allowed into the church to make any speech.

He was later driven off amidst tight security.

But reacting to the development, the Niger State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Musa Dada, said the Emir should have been forgiven.

He said, “When the bomb incident happened I was told that the Emir neither came nor sent anybody to the church about three days after until when the government queried him to explain why he refused to visit the church and sympathise with the victims.

“Although I don’t know his response but I understand he was given 24 hours to respond why he didn’t show that he was their Emir and royal father and didn’t bother to ascertain what had happened to them.
This could be the reason why they (congregation) didn’t want him to be here. It is even better that he is not here; if he is here it would have been a very terrible embarrassment.

“He however later came to apologise and when cheques were presented to relations of victims, he was here to apologise for his inability to visit on time.”

Train Crushes Man to Death with earphone

A man was crushed to death this morning by a fast-moving train at Oyingbo, suburb of Lagos, while walking along the rail way with his earpiece on.

The man, who is yet to be identified, as at the time of this report was said to have been enjoying the music from his mobile device while walking along the tracks with his earphone. The man was crushed to death by the fast moving train when it approached him.

Eyewitnesses said that the man did not hear the horn of the train neither was he aware that it was coming. Pieces of his body was seen along the rail after the train crushed him without waiting for a second.

”Obviously this traumatic event will have a significant impact on the man’s family and the train driver. But it is also a timely reminder for people not to put earpiece on while walking on the road and they should ensure to remain behind the rail to ensure their safety.” Said a safety officer.

The man’s corpse has been deposited in the mortuary while investigation is still on.

Shocker: Woman Spends 2 years on Toilet

A woman in Singapore spent 932 days (almost 2 years) on the toilet claiming that she felt “someone” was holding her down and preventing her from leaving.

The woman, 58, (not identified) was said to be suffering from depression.
According to her husband Ong Kean On, 64, with the help of the police and ambulance staff, managed to send her to the Institute of Mental Health for treatment.

She had not left the toilet since May 25 in 2009 and that she ate, drank, and slept on the toilet.

He added that she refused to leave the washroom and complained that “someone” threw stones at her adding that water was dripping on her.
