Nigeria: Robber Strike at Airport, Cart Away N96 Million

Dare-devil robbers yesterday struck at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport hit the Bureau de Change situated at the car park and carted away the sum of US$600,000 (N95, 969,998.17).

Daily Champion learnt that the robbers, who were armed to the teeth, traced some Bureau de Change operators to the car park and had stormed the place like something out of a Wild, Wild West movie threatening and shooting sporadically.

People using the car park at that time scampered to safety as the sound of gunfire and ricocheting bullets filled the air.

Our reporter also learnt that the operator had wanted to prove stubborn by not giving up the money but the incessant gunfire around and in the air made him release the loot to the menacing robbers.

However, while firing one of the stray bullets hit an innocent bystander injuring her although she was taken to the hospital.

Daily Champion also learnt that security agents in and around the airport were nowhere to be found as the gunmen rampaged the car park, did their deed and escaped unmolested; there was no barricade put on the way to stop them.

Our reporter also tried to get in contact with the Airport Police Commissioner, Akali Gwari for confirmation to no avail as he refused to pick calls or answer text messages.

Airport Police Public Relations Officers, Dennis Ifeje also refused to pick his call but had spoken earlier to another correspondent who said that there was no official confirmation to the story and that police was still investigating.
