Davido Bought Single ”GOBE” From Upcoming Singer Password

If actually The song was bought from Password, It seems not to be a bad idea, There is no superman anywhere, I salute Davido's courage to buy intellectual properties, more than 60% of songs are being written by lyrics writers and some composed by composers.

Hours after the release Davido’s single, another version quite similar to the pop star’s surfaced online The same song by an upcoming singer-producer named Password apparently bears the same title ‘Gobe‘ and it was released a year ago.

Password (who gained little buzz after featuring on Darey’s ‘Style na style’ remix) had made online releasefor the same song in July 2011 but it seemed not to have garnered any buzz back then. Sources says Password who produced and wrote the first version of ‘Gobe’ allegedly sold the song to Davido for a sum of money possibly up to N500,000.

‘Dude sold the song to Davido. He produced and wrote it, all of a sudden they are saying Shizzi produced it‘, a studio rat and close friend to Password said in anonymity.
What however makes ‘Gobe’ peculiaris that it had been previously released as an official single.

Both parties have not been responsive to queries over the matterbut after numerous comments were made on music blogs and social networks Twitter and Facebook about the stunning similarities between the songs, Davido and Password are now very vocal on Twitter about the matter.
‘They noticed people had found out, it’s like Password didn’t tell Davido that he had released the song before he sold it‘.

Davido was smart enough play along. This afternoon, he tweeted; Big ups 2 @iamshizzi and @iam_password for such a great combination of work for GOBE! Morestuff 2 come HKN!
Password was also very co-operative as he also tweeted in support; The song Gobe was officially replaced by @iam_davido hu co-wrote on d new version and I @iam-password is very happy and satisfied.

HKN in-house producer also tweeted;Follow my gud friend @iam_password and thanx to him and d inspiration we all put into gobe! Cc”@iam_Davido.

‘You Must Get A Degree’ – Davido’s Father Insists

They say the biggest legacy a parent can leave for his-her children is education.

Every parent no matter the circumstances strives hard to live up to that statement and so is Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke who seems hell bent on seeing one of his sons David ‘Davido’ Adeleke attending and graduating from University like every other child.

The last two years have been a handful for Davido – he didn’t just make a very successful debut in the Nigerian music scene but accelerated to the A-list spot, something that has taken other A-listers years to achieve. He’s released a debut album with chart topping singles, won international awards and performed in and out of the country, what else could he ask for?
Well, Davido isn’t doing the asking, his father is; more like demanding. NET sources say Mr Adeleke wants his son to enrol in a University and graduate with a degree.

And to make that happen, he has reportedly built an entire department at Babcock University (where he is currently a provost) for Creative Arts which will have Davido and his manager Kamal as the only students for now.
We’re told he has also bought a dedicated car which take the boys to and from school as they work to combine academic commitments with show business.

Davido and Kamal (who had to go back to school because of Davido’s father’s insistence) are using the opportunity to bond, a source tells us.
It is also likely his celebrity cousins Bayo ‘B.Red’ and Sina ‘Sinarambo’ Adeleke will be joining them soon.
‘Davido’s dad believes a lot in his music and HKN. He thinks David can take it to the next level but he also feels education is compulsory foundation for his son’, a source to the family tells us.

We learn he has been helping to put up necessary structures that’ll ensure the boys don’t mess things up. For starters, Mr Adeleke insists on meeting with everyone working with his son.
And the young pop star has so far been co-operative.
Davido’s mother Vera, an educationist herself was until her death in 2003, a lecturer at Babcock University

PHOTOS:Nigerian Man Jailed For Punching Woman In London

A man who punched a teenage girl and a female student, leaving them unconscious on the ground, has been jailed for four years.
Michael Ayoade, 35, was caught on CCTV staging the random attacks in Plaistow, east London.

In the second attack on November 13 last year, he jogged up behind a 16-year-old girl in the High Street and punched her in the head. The teenager fell to the ground, breaking three of her teeth.
A year earlier, Ayoade punched a university student in the side of the head at Plaistow tube station. His victim, Daniella Montieth, was taken to hospital with a broken tooth.

Passing sentence at Inner London Crown Court, Judge Roger Chapple said Ayoade, of Greengate Street, Plaistow, had launched "vicious, unprovoked attacks on young, lone females".
He said: "These images are indeed worth many thousands of words. The footage captures graphically the shocking violence of these attacks.

"In both cases there was but one blow. In the case of (the 16-year-old) it can plainly be seen from the CCTV footage that the force behind the blow was massive.

"The ferocity of the blow that you struck to her after running up behind her with full force was truly shocking.
"In both cases the force of the blow was such as to render the victims unconscious albeit mercifully not for long."
Ayoade, who is originally from Nigeria, followed the teenager for 800m before attacking her.

Prosecutor Joel Smith told the court Ayoade said she had "looked at him in a rude way" and that he could not go through the rest of the day having taken "an insult from a little person like that".

Ayoade, who was arrested shortly after the attack, admitted two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of possessing cannabis after a bag of the drug was found at his home.
Defending, Gillian Frost said Ayoade, who had smoked three or four cannabis joints and drunk a cup of vodka before attacking the teenager, had not wanted to cause more serious harm to either woman.

He was jailed for four years for the attack on the teenager and 19 months for punching the student, although the two sentences will run concurrently.
There was no separate penalty for the cannabis charge.

Guests protest as Obaigbena fixes American anthem before Nigeria’s at THISDAY awards

The guests at the event refused for the American anthem to be sung before the Nigerian anthem.
There was a mild drama on Tuesday at the 18th Annual Thisday Awards held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as guests at the ceremony kicked against singing the American National Anthem before the Nigerian anthem.

Guests were already seated when the award organiser, Nduka Obaigbena, publisher of Thisday Newspapers; and the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; ushered in Bill Clinton, former American President. After that, the Master of Ceremony announced that the American Anthem will be sung followed by the Nigerian anthem.

In swift response to the announcement, there was a spontaneous, and overwhelming resistance from the guests, who vehemently kicked against the arrangement, insisting that such arrangement was insulting to Nigeria and her citizens.
The guests, many who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES after the event, argued that in Nigeria, the country’s anthem should be sung first and that in America, one should expect the Americans anthem to take priority. They demanded a reversal of the arrangement.

A change was effected. The Nigeria national anthem was sung, followed by Ogun State anthem while the American anthem was eventually dropped.

The ceremony was in celebration of Nigeria’s best teachers and fifteen teachers were honoured at the event. It was organised by Mr. Obaigbena’s Thisday Newspapers and held in the Ogun State capital.

Akon Sued For Possibly Crippling A Man

Akon Sued By Concert EmployeeSinger Akon has landed himself in the middle of a court battle for injuring a concert employee in Alabama. Apparently, the singer stage dove and landed directly on top of the guy.

Matthew Graham is suing Akon saying he was permanently injured while working at Bayfest in 2009 during Akon’s performance. According to Graham, Akon “negligently or wantonly leapt into the overcrowded mass of concertgoers.” Matthew Graham says that when Akon dove into the crowd, he struck him.
Graham alleges he has sustained injuries to his neck, back, knee, and head.

The pain was described as severe and permanent which has left him physically disabled. Despite identifying the places he was injured, he has yet to fully detail the extent of his injuries and disability. Two governors nearly exchanged blows at PDP forum

Two Peoples Democratic Party governors nearly came to blows Sunday at a meeting in Abuja called to form a separate platform for PDP governors, Daily Trust learnt from a reliable source yesterday.
The source said the formation of the forum was encouraged by President Godluck Jonathan as a counterpoise to the Governors Forum whose chairman Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state is rumoured to nurse an ambition to run in 2015 as vice president to Sule Lamido of Jigawa state.

According to the source, as soon as the meeting began Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, an Amaechi partisan, criticised the need for a PDP governors forum. He argued that the governors forum engenders unity adding that the ruling party is already dominant in the forum.

However, Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, said to be a Jonathan supporter for 2015, rose to his feet and challenged Aliyu for opposing the creation of the forum. He said the decision was taken to set up the forum at a meeting the previous day where Aliyu was absent, and that he could not therefore oppose it now.

Their exchanges degenerated into harsh words for each other and they began to inch forward angrily. At this stage some governors moved forward quickly and came between them, as they continued to hurl unpleasant words over the heads of those that separated them.
Finally, the source said, they were persuaded back to their seats as a few governors moved back and forth to broker peace. At last they succeeded and they were encouraged to embrace themselves. They did and the meeting continued.

The source said no election was held when the meeting ended but PDP Chairman Bamanga Tukur announced to reporters that Akpabio had been elected chairman.

BREAKING NEWS: Oscar Pistorius granted bail

View image on Twitter
South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius was granted bail Friday pending his trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Olympic and Paralympic star Pistorius, dubbed the “Blade Runner,” maintains he did not realize Steenkamp was in the locked bathroom of his home in a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa, and fired through the door in a panic over a possible prowler. However, prosecutors say the 26-year-old committed the “premeditated murder” of Steenkamp, 29, a model and trained lawyer.

On the fourth day of his bail hearing Friday, Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair told the court he had decided Pistorius could be freed ahead of the trial. There was a cry of "yes" from the public gallery after his decision and the court was then adjourned. Pistorius returned to a holding cell to await the bail conditions. His relatives embraced, cried and prayed."I've come to the conclusion that the accused has made a case to be granted bail," Nair said.
Earlier prosecutor Gerrie Nel told the court that “one must stretch” to believe Pistorius’ account of what happened in the shooting early on Valentine’s Day.'It's not true' And he questioned why Steenkamp would have stayed silent. “Why would she not have shouted, 'Where are you (Oscar)? What's going on?’” Nel said. “She did not say a word, she did not scream, she did nothing! I think that's improbable ... It's not true!"
In a statement read to the court on Tuesday, Pistorius described waking up and and going to his bedroom balcony to bring a fan inside and close the sliding glass doors and blinds. After hearing a noise in the bathroom, the double-amputee said he felt "a sense of terror" and feared a prowler was in the house.
Pistorius' account added: "I fired shots at the toilet door and shouted at Reeva to phone the police. She did not respond and I moved backwards out of the bathroom, keeping my eyes on the bathroom entrance. Everything was pitch dark in the bedroom and I was still too scared to switch on a light. Reeva was not responding. "When I reached the bed, I realized that Reeva was not in bed. That is when it dawned on me that it could have been Reeva who was in the toilet."
The prosecutor argued Friday that the runner’s attitude to the case had been “I’ve done nothing wrong.” Nel said he was “not saying the murder of Reeva Steenkamp was planned days in advance, weeks in advance,” but certainly earlier that night.
He also questioned why someone who was concerned about burglaries would sleep with open doors and windows. Nel claimed Pistorius did not understand the seriousness of the alleged offence and appeared to think it was “business as usual.” He suggested this meant the athlete was a flight risk.
However, Nair asked “what kind of life would Pistorius lead if he flees, given his protheses?”“Exactly” muttered someone in the court’s public gallery. The prosecutor mentioned WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange -- currently in Ecuadorian Embassy in London, England, after skipping bail -- as a well-known person who cannot be extradited.
"His facial features are as well known as Mr. Pistorius' prostheses," Nel said. Assange is sought for questioning in Sweden over alleged sexual offenses. After a court in London decided he should be extradited, Assange fled to the embassy.
Defense lawyer Barry Roux told the court that Pistorius should at most be charged with culpable homicide, which is the unlawful, negligent killing of someone under South African law. He said “intent” to possibly kill a burglar could not be transferred to become intent to kill Steenkamp.
Roux said Pistorius would not be able to flee the country unnoticed. If he went through security at an airport "the system would react." The lawyer added that Pistorius would not skip bail, saying that his prosthetics needed adjustment every month and that he also required medication for his stomach.
The arrest of Pistorius stunned millions who watched in awe last year as the sprinter reached the semi-final of the 400 meters at the London 2012 Olympics.

8-year-Old Boy Marries 61-Year-Old Woman In Zimbabwe

Photo: UNBELIEVABLE MARRIAGE:

--- 8-year-Old Boy Marries 61-Year-Old Woman In Zimbabwe ---

ABOUT 100 people were witness to a most unusual wedding at the weekend.

Now you may kiss the bride

The bride was 61 years old and the groom was an eight-year-old boy! Both families were present at the wedding of Sanele Masilela ( and Helen Shabangu (61) and the bride's husband and her five children were also at the wedding in extension six, Mamelodi East, Tshwane.

The boy's aunt, Patience Masilela (46), explained why the wedding took place.

She said: "The boy was named after his late grandfather who never had a white wedding, so the ancestors told the boy to get married and he chose Helen to be his bride. The family took his desire to get married very seriously. They paid R7 000 lobola for the bride in March last year and spent R15 000 on the wedding because they believed it was what the ancestors wanted."

The bride said: "I'm married and have five kids of my own, but I know that this is what the ancestors wanted – and now they are happy. It is a ritual. We are just playing now, but it is a sign that he will get married one day."

The young groom said: "I told my mother that I wanted to get married because I really did want to. I chose her because I love her and I'm happy that I married her – but I will go to school and study hard. When I'm older I will marry a lady my own age."

The bride's long-time husband, Alfred Shabangu (65), said that he never had a problem with her marrying the boy because he too knew that it was what the ancestors wanted. My kids and I are happy. We don't have any problems with it," he said.

However, some community members said they were shocked.

One woman said: "How can a family go this far for the ancestors? It shows that people do take messages from the ancestors seriously."

This was a not a legal marriage – it was only done for ritual purposes. The happy couple seal their marriage with a kiss.

INCREDIBLE: Chinese Girl Writes With Both Hands At A Time, In Different Languages

Chen Siyuan, a young translator from Handan, China’s Hebei province, has the incredibly ability to write with both hands at the same time. Even more impressive is that fact that she can write vertically with one hand and horizontally with the other, or in two different languages.

In this age of technology, writing with both hands is not as valuable a skill as it once was, but that doesn’t make 24-year-old Chen Siyuan’s ability any less remarkable. This young English translator has been wowing onlookers with her amazing talent of writing with both hands simultaneously, in two different languages (Chinese and English). You’d be tempted to think this kind of unique capacity requires years of practice, but Chen says she discovered her ability completely by accident, during her high-school years.

She was overwhelmed by the quantities of English homework, but found that she could complete respective tasks much faster by writing with both hands at the same time. ”When I was in high school, I unconsciously wrote with both hands while trying to finish my homework in a hurry,” Chen told People’s Daily Online. ”My classmates were curious and tried to imitate me, but none of them succeeded.”

Chen Siyuan says the first reaction of people who hear about her talent is disbelief. Then, once they actually see her doing it, they want to try it for themselves. The third reaction is always disappointment, as they realize it’s impossible for them to imitate her. In a time when most of us are starting to forget how to write with one hand, this remarkable girl can effortlessly do it with both. Apart from her ability to write in two languages, she can write consecutive poetry verses on sentences in different directions (vertical or horizontal). “If you are writing just one Chinese character, perhaps it depends on your memory, but if you are writing a full article, or different articles, for instance simultaniously writing English and Chinese, I think it’s a matter of two-way thinking,”

Husband loses court case over office affair

He alleged that the company was responsible for the pain and suffering that resulted from the affair because his wife met the man while working there

The High Court in Johannesburg dismissed a claim by a man who tried to sue FirstRand Bank after his wife allegedly fell in love with her colleague while working there, Beeld newspaper reported on Saturday.
“Mr [Ramnath] Dessie’s claim is, to say the least, bizarre. He argues that FirstRand is on one way or the other responsible for his pain and suffering as a result of his wife’s affair,” Judge Nigel Willis said.
“I know Johannesburg litigants can be imaginative, but this claim deserves a special prize. There is no such claim recognised in our common law.”
Dessie Ramnath, brought an application to court and alleged that the bank was responsible for the pain and suffering that resulted from the affair because his wife met the man while working at the bank.
Willis dismissed the claim and ordered Dessie to pay the bank’s legal costs.
“I am not completely sure that in this country we would allow people to claim damages because people fall in love at work,” Willis said.
“This happens all the time. It has happened, and will no doubt continue to happen until the cows come home.”
He said it was nothing new to hear “weird” cases in the High Court in Johannesburg.
“There should be a motto, ex curia Johannesburgensis semper aliquid novi: out of the Johannesburg High Court there is always something new,” Willis said.

Oscar Pistorius Charged With Premeditated Murder

South African Prosecutor Gerrie Nel charged Olympian Oscar Pistorius with premeditated murder of his model girlfriend at a bail hearing on Tuesday. The prosecutor said that Pistorius shot 29-year-old Reeva Steenkamp four times through the bathroom door of his home in a guarded and gated complex in the South African capital, Pretoria.

Investigators have found no evidence to support Pistorius’ version that he mistook his girlfriend Steenkamp for a burglar, the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court was told on Tuesday. “There is no possible information to support his version that it was a burglar,” said State prosecutor Gerrie Nel in a submission at the bail hearing.

At the time of the shooting there were only two persons at Pistorius’s home, Nel said. “The door was broken open from the outside,” Nel told the court, asking why a burglar would lock himself in the bathroom.

Escorted by police, Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius arrived early at a courthouse in South Africa’s capital on Tuesday for a bail hearing in the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius, in a gray suit, blue shirt and tie appeared grim and solemn in court. He nodded after the Chief Magistrate asked if he was well.

The shooting death in the early hours of Valentine’s Day of Steenkamp, in Pistorius’ home in a gated neighbourhood had shocked South Africans and many around the world who idolized Pistorius for overcoming adversity to become a sports champion, competing in the London Olympics last year in track besides being a Paralympian.

Journalists watched Pistorius, head covered with a hood, leave the police station and arrive at the back entrance to the courthouse in Pretoria.

Pistorius’ brother Carl and long-time track coach Ampie Louw, the man who convinced Pistorius to take up athletics, were also in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court building, pointing out friends of the family who should be allowed in, as dozens of people waited to go in through the public entrance.

Life is a mess after I had an affair with my boss

I HAVE been married for two years and I don't have children. Though my husband is a wonderful person I have realised that he is not really the man for me.
I have fallen in love with my boss. He is also married and has three children. At the beginning of our affair he told me he was unhappily married and that he was in love with me.
We tried hard to keep everything a secret, but I think some of our colleagues might have suspected that something was going on. This resulted in a few people not talking to me and treating me badly.
When this happened he started cooling off and eventually told me that we could no longer see each other. He said he loved his wife and children and would never leave them. I can't believe that this is happening to me because he promised me the world.
In the meantime I had started to tell my husband that I was unhappy in our marriage and that perhaps we should think about separating. He and his family are so upset and his family are furious with me.
I did not mention that I had met someone else. So here I am in an absolute mess and my boss-boyfriend is just fine.
His family are unaware of our affair and the people at work treat him as if he is the greatest person on earth. Why must I be treated like this and he gets off scot-free?
I want to write an anonymous letter to his manager and I want to phone his wife. I want everyone to know that he is a liar and a cheat. I am so angry with him, my so-called friends at work and my husband and his family.
Life is so unfair and I don't deserve to be treated like this. Why? Why is this happening to me?

I died for seven days; friends sold my properties hoping I won’t return –Patience Jonathan

First Lady, Patience Jonathan, on Sunday opened up on her controversial medical trip last year, admitting for the first time she ailed terribly and was close to dying.
Mrs. Jonathan, who spoke at a special thanksgiving service at the Aso Rock Chapel where the first family worships, said she underwent multiple surgical operations and at some point her doctors lost hope after she “passed out for more than a week.”
“It was not an easy experience for me,” Mrs. Jonathan told the congregation which included senior government officials. “I actually died. I passed out for more than a week. My intestine and tummy were opened.”
“I am not Lazarus but my experience was similar to his. My doctors said all hope was lost. It was God himself in His infinite mercy that said I will return to Nigeria. God woke me up after seven days,” she narrated.
Mrs. Jonathan’s remarks at the church service, was the first time the presidency would admit the First Lady was seriously sick as widely speculated in 2012.
Mrs. Jonathan was on admission at the Horst Schmidt Klinik in Germany for an undisclosed ailment although multiple reports suggested she was treated for lungs and abdominal problems.
While the news circulated, the presidency ensured an anxious public remained in the dark about her condition, repeatedly insisting Mrs. Jonathan traveled for a “deserved rest”.
The thanksgiving service was delayed for two months, after the initial schedule was moved due to the helicopter crash deaths of former governor of Kaduna state, Patrick Yakowa, and the former National Security Adviser, Owoeye Azazi.
President Goodluck Jonathan, ministers and top government functionaries attended the event on Sunday.
During a stirring session, the First Lady narrated how she went through “hell” while in hospital and said she has dedicated her life to serving the needy.
“It is the Lord’s doing that I returned alive,” she said. “When God says yes, nobody can say no. People are always afraid of operation (surgery). But in my own case, while my travail lasted, I was begging for it after the third operation because I was going to the theatre every day. It was God who saw me through. I did eight or nine operations within one month.”
While she lay dying in Germany, friends and associates who hoped she will not be making it back to Nigeria with life, scrambled for her properties, selling those they could,” Mrs. Jonathan said.
She accused some of those she trusted of leaking information to the public that she had passed on.
“I know that some people somehow leaked the information that I was dead. They are people that I trust and rely on. To them, I was dead and I would never return to the country alive,” she said. “Some of them even sold my things off. “I won’t say everything here.”
She said she believed she had not completed her assignment on earth, which was why God spared her.
“It was not an easy one. The day I came back, I said God I have nothing to say, I offer myself to you. I will be doing things that will touch the lives of the less privilege. God gave me a second chance because I reached there. He knew I had not completed the assignments He gave me that was why I was sent back,” the First Lady said.

Wizkid finally dumps Banky W, starts new label-Star Boy Entertainment.

Wizkid

Wizkid’s exit from Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment has not attracted  the kind of controversy that greeted D’banj’s separation from Don Jazzy, he  seems to be determined to chart a new course for himself.

Wizkid indicated in a recent tweet on his Twitter handle that he has pitched his tent with a new records label known as Star Boy Entertainment.
He has  not come out directly to claim ownership of the label, but it is widely speculated that it belongs to him.

Fans of the young, talented artiste have been sending him dozens of goodwill messages on Twitter, acknowledging the birth of Star Boy Entertainment.
In addition to the label, it was gathered that the singer had signed a deal with an international management team based in England and appointed his long-time friend, Godwin Tom, manager.
A few weeks ago, it was rumoured that Wizkid might consider mending fences with his erstwhile boss and mentor, Banky W, thereby suggesting a possible return to the EME, the music label that nurtured his career.

But the rift between both artistes had deepened, despite several efforts by Banky W to prevail on Wizkid not to leave. Even an attempt to get the latter’s mother to mediate in the matter is said to have failed to yield positive results.
Things started falling apart between the young artiste and EME when he fired his manager, Osagie Osarenkhoe, in September 2012 for reasons best known to him. Further proof that all was not well came to light when he moved out of his former residence to a new apartment somewhere in Lekki Phase 1.

Early this month, Wizkid gave the indication on Twitter that he had finally made up his mind to quit EME. He had tweeted: “Don’t take loyalty for stupidity. Don’t! Moving on to start all over again!”
Many people read between the lines and concluded that he might be nursing a deep grudge against the management of the records label.

Maina Drives Two Bulletproof Cars, Spends N16m On Security Monthly – Senate Committee

maina-protest-300x265The Chairman and the Co-Chairman of the Joint committee of the Senate investigating pension administration in Nigeria, Senators Aloysius Etok and Kabiru Gaya, have given accounts of their experiences with the Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.

Gaya, recounting his experience, said the committee received 7,800 petitions during its assignment which alleged that Maina coordinated the process of mismanaging pension funds.

Etok, in his submission, noted that Maina refused to join the committee on the tour of the states during the investigations to hear what pensioners had to say against him; instead he was busy condemning the Senate in the media.

“We called him to account for his stewardship in all the offices he was overseeing. When we exposed some things, he decided not to appear again. Instead of appearing before the committee, he would go on the media, condemning the entire Senate.

“He said he was not given fair hearing, but when we offered him fair hearing, he refused. He drives two bulletproof cars, in a country where pensioners are hungry. He used N1bn for jamboree in the name of verification abroad. He spends more than N8m every two weeks on personal security,” Etok said.

Ronaldo, Wenger For Kanu N5bn Cardiac Hospital

Vieira, Henry Also To Grace March 14 Event In Abuja

Brazil football legend and three-time FIFA World best player, Ronaldo Luis Nazario De Lima, is top among the list of world football personalities slated to grace the official launching of the N5billion Kanu Heart Foundation Cardiac Hospital Center slated to hold at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja come March 14, 2013, organizers have revealed.

Ronaldo won the FIFA World Best Player of The Year in 1996, 1997 and 2002 among other awards and will be making his first visit to Nigeria come March 14, 2013.

Also billed to be part of the event include Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger, Inter Milan of Italy President Massimo Moratti and Papilo’s former team-mates at the London Gunners club, Patrick Vieira and Thiery Henry.

“These are just a few of the big names in world football who will grace the launching on March 14 in Abuja”,states Pastor Onyebuchi Abia, Secretary Kanu Heart Foundation Advisory board.

“We have already dispatched their letters of invitation while Papilo himself travelled to South Africa with letters for some of Africa’s best footballers who will also attend the event.

“Such players include Didier Drogba among others."

“Don’t forget Vieira and Thiery Henry were Kanu’s team-mates at Arsenal. Massimo Moratti was President of Inter Milan who signed Kanu in the club in 1996 after the Atlanta Olympic Games."

“So it's going to be a great occasion with the target of raising N5 billion to build what is a model cardiac hospital in the country, only the second in the continent after the one in Sudan,” Abia explained.

The project, he further explained, will be completed in six months if funds are available, adding that it will have diagnostic centers in all the geo-political zones of the country.

“I suffered from cancer” – Governor Chime

After several months of cover ups by aides to Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, the Governor has opened up on his state of health, declaring that he suffered from cancer of the nose.

In a chat with journalists on Monday at the Enugu Government House, Chime who returned last Friday after spending 140 days abroad said he used his long vacation to attend to his health.

This is contrary to claims by his media aides that he is hale and hearty. Throughout Chime’s absence, his information commissioner, Chuks Ugwuoke debunked several reports on the Governor’s illness.

However, speaking extensively on his journey abroad, Chime said: “In August last year, I was privileged to be one of those nominated by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to go to Germany to study their federalism, I was to represent the south east zone; I had to use the opportunity of the trip to pass through London to do my medicals since it was the only opportunity I had to do that. After my medicals, I was certified feat by the doctors, but I noticed that I had a little growth beneath my jaw. Ordinarily, nobody could see it but I felt it seriously and asked the doctors to further investigation on it.

“I was later referred to a GP who after examining me said there was nothing wrong with me. I still asked for further investigation. I even made arrangement with them to help me set appointment for closer investigation. I left for Germany and had to still return to London to keep the appointment for proper screening of the growth. It was after the screening that it was discovered that the growth in question was cancerous. It was also discovered that the main tumour was behind my nose; it was simply called cancer of the nose.

“Cancer is such thing that when you hear it, the person involved will even declare himself dead instantly. I was subjected to further scanning at the nose and neck and was told that it was curable, not manageable. When I asked how to go about it, I was told it has to be as early as possible before it spreads to other areas. Accordingly I arranged for it to be done. I had to cancel further trips and agreed to be back to London in two weeks. Within the period, I came back to Nigeria and made arrangement for transmission. I wrote a letter to the speaker, informing him of my decision to proceed on leave and sought his cooperation to work with my deputy who will act as governor. We even held two executive council meetings within the period where I informed members of my exco that I was proceeding on a long vacation.

“I left for Abuja the next day and attended the Governors’ Forum meeting and the next day I left for London, settled in and saw the oncologist the next day. By Monday, I commenced treatment. Cancer is a deadly disease and the cure is also deadly. Its not like panadol, not drugs we buy off the counter. You go through different stages. The treatment altogether lasted for 12 weeks and throughout the treatment, I was an out-patient. I was never admitted in any hospital in London. During the period of the treatment, I had challenges and these are challenges I will not even wish my enemy to go through; it’s not easy to imagine.

“When I read in the papers that I had died in India, it was a source of entertainment; each time we wanted to laugh, we looked for Nigeria papers online but what became worrisome, was the deliberate and sustained attempt to undermine the government of Enugu state. If you’ve been following events, over the years, we’ve invested a lot on infrastructure but I’ve always said that one thing I would like to leave behind is a workable system. When we came in, there was no system in place and I felt there was indeed to build one in order to encourage continuity. This was therefore an opportunity to test the system we had put in place. You must have observed that we have something resembling a system in place now. While I was away, the government kept on functioning, everything kept on moving as if I was around. Nobody talked about strike over non-payment of salaries, no contractor complained that he was not paid. We even had increased activities in my absence.

“I can beat my chest that the Deputy Governor who led the team indeed ensure that the system worked in my absence. I’m happy we’ve almost reached that height, it gladdened my heart. Of course, we were in close contact and we didn’t have problems inspite of attempts by some of our brothers and sisters who live in the Diaspora to undermine the system and were publishing all sorts of nonsense. Our local media even joined in spreading the falsehood but in a nutshell, the Enugu state government under my administration has come to stay. The treatment ended on December 14 and the period of recovery commenced. “I was asked to stay away from office for six months but by late January when we went to review my state, they were shocked with my recovery rate which showed that the tumour had gone. I was almost declared cancer free. I will be required to be going there from time to time, but I can assure you that they succeeded in curing the disease.

“I can tell you that I was officially discharged that’s why I had to return. I’m still in the process of recovery and as such you don’t expect me to running tomorrow but I’m free to resume duties to ensure that activities are running on full speed.

“Let me also make it clear that when I was leaving for London, I left a healthy man. I voluntarily submitted myself to have the tumour removed. To further buttress this point, I left the shores of this country without a single aide. Most times, cancer kills because of late discovery; it’s curable. Anybody that discovers that he has cancer should go and treat it and not allow the opinions of people to dissuade him or her.

“The people that ought to know about my predicament actually knew. Let me make it clear to you that there is hardly any public officer that travels out on vacation only to go and rest. Most of them go out to attend to health challenges. I didn’t travel sick, it was a tumour. I wasn’t grounded. I decided to nip it in the bud. I actually chose that period to do it because that was the only window of opportunity that I had. That was the first time I was spending four months together outside Enugu since maybe after the war. It was never an emergency and it can never be likened to that of Yar’Adua. While Yar’Adua traveled out sick, I traveled out a healthy man and let me also tell you that the attacks started about two weeks after I left”.
