France Immortalises Zidane Headbutt With Statue

The infamous headbutt that French football legend Zinedine Zidane landed on Marco Materazzi during a World Cup final has been transformed into a giant statue and displayed in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

The bronze work of art, simply titled “Headbutt”, was Wednesday attracting crowds of tourists and locals who jostled to have their photos taken in front of the five-metre (16-foot) statue.

The sculpture is by Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed, subject of a retrospective exhibition in the Pompidou from October 3 until next January.

“This statue goes against the tradition of making statues in honour of certain victories. It is an ode to defeat,” said exhibition organiser Alain Michaud.

A much smaller version of the statue — which shows the two football players in the seconds after the headbutt, with the Italian player reeling after the attack — was previously exhibited by a New York art gallery.
Zidane, who holds legendary status in France as a member of the national teams that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final for headbutting Marco Materazzi in the chest.

Man Throws Hot Water, Burning Stove On Wife

A middle-aged man identified as Oladimeji Fowowe has been arrested by the police at Iju  Police Station Red House, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly setting his wife on fire, when he threw a burning stove and hot water on her.
Oluwakemi Fowowe battling for survival on hospital bed.
The suspect, who trailed his wife to Ijoko in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria where she had gone to assist her husband’s younger brother’s wife who had just put to bed a set of twins, was alleged to have committed the crime when his wife returned to Iju area of Ishaga, Lagos State from Ijoko
Speaking with P.M.NEWS on her hospital bed at Ogba, Lagos State, the victim,  Mrs. Oluwakemi Fowowe, said she left her husband and father of her three children, when his trouble and that of his mother became unbearable for her.
“I was at the passage facing outside not knowing that my husband had sneaked through the back door and the next thing I heard was a loud noise as he threw both the burning stove and a pot of hot water on me.
“My body caught fire and I ran outside, shouting for help before people assisted me in putting out the fire. I became unconscious before I was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors battled to revive me. I want all well-meaning Nigerians to come to my aid as I have no one to help me,’’she moaned in pains
Oladimeji was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police at Iju Police Station, where he was detained but he was later granted bail.
His wife’s family said he should not be sent to jail because of the three children his wife had for him. But he was advised to take care of the victim.
However, the wife’s family decided to press charges against him when he failed to honour  his side of the agreement, to take care of the victim. He allegedly  abandoned her in the hospital.
Oladimeji, who had earlier told the police that his action was the handiwork of the devil, has gone underground to evade arrest.   The victim is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid as she requires about N400,000 for the treatment of the burns.

World's Most Inspirational People: Jessica Cox: became the first pilot with no arms, proving you don't need 'wings' to fly

Jessica Cox suffered a rare birth defect and was born without any arms. None of the prenatal tests her mother took showed there was anything wrong with her. And yet she was born with this rare congenital disease, but also with a great spirit.

The psychology graduate can write, type, drive a car, brush her hair and talk on her phone simply using her feet. Ms Cox, from Tuscon, Arizona, USA, is also a former dancer and double black belt in Tai Kwon-Do. She has a no-restrictions driving license, she flies planes and she can type 25 words a minute.

The plane she is flying is called an Ercoupe and it is one of the few airplanes to be made and certified without pedals. Without rudder pedals Jessica is free to use her feet as hands. She took three years instead of the usual six months to complete her lightweight aircraft licence, had three flying instructors and practiced 89 hours of flying, becoming the first pilot with no arms.

Boxing heavyweight Corrie Sanders murdered

Corrie Sanders - South Africa's former world boxing champion - was murdered in an armed robbery on Saturday, according to tweets by friends and the sports community. He was 46.

Sanders was shot and killed in an armed robbery at a restaurant.

The shooting took place in Brits, near Pretoria, at a 21st birthday function for a family member. Sanders was wounded in the stomach and hand. He was taken to hospital, where he died of his wounds.
Corrie Sanders' second-round TKO win against Vladimir Klitschko on March 8, 2003 is one of the best-ever performances by a South African boxer. Klitschko was considered the heir apparent to the great Lennox Lewis so Sanders' win was a great achievement, especially as Klitschko is back at the top again. Sports journalist Neal Collins says on his blog that Sanders was the victim of a random shooting when three armed men raided the restaurant at Thatch Haven Country Lodge, just off Carel de Wet Road near Brits outside Pretoria. He died after emergency surgery at Kalafong Hospital.
"Corrie didn't try anything heroic, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They shot him in the stomach. There was also a wound in his arm," an eyewitness told Collins. "We were at Thatch Haven near Brits to celebrate with Corrie’s brother Mike. His son, also Mike, is 21 next week.
"There were 48 people at the restaurant, it’s just off the main road. We arrived at around 4pm on Saturday. At about 6pm, as it was getting dark, Mike gave a speech. Then the grandfather stood up and offered a prayer.
"That’s when we heard three or four shots. At first we thought it was the kids playing around. Then we realised it was serious. "There were three of them. Armed with pistols. They were telling everyone to lie down and give them their wallets and mobile phones. They didn’t take much. They were working their way through the room when a car alarm went off outside and they panicked and ran.
"Corrie was the only one shot. He didn’t try anything heroic as far as I could see. He was just in the wrong place, by the entrance. They shot him through the stomach and I also saw a wound in his arm, it might have been from the same bullet, which went right through him."I think they shot him as a lesson to the rest of us, to say they were serious." Olympic swimming champion Roland Schoeman expressed his shock on Twitter, saying "Can't describe in words how sad I am to hear about the senseless murder of my friend Corrie Sanders. RIP".

British soldier gives birth to boy on Afghan duty tour

A female British soldier serving in Afghanistan who had been apparently unaware that she was pregnant has given birth to a baby boy at a field hospital at the Camp Bastion in Helmand province.

The Royal Artillery gunner, whose identity was not released, was admitted to hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. She gave birth to a baby boy, who was born prematurely after 34 weeks of pregnancy..
Doctors from Britain have been flown out to accompany her and the baby back on a Royal Air Force (RAF) flight to Britain. She fell pregnant before her six-month tour of duty began.
"This is a unique occurrence, but my team is well-rehearsed in the unexpected and they adapted brilliantly to the situation," said Lieutenant Colonel Andrea Lewis, commanding officer of the field hospital.
The field hospital at Camp Bastion, though more used to carrying out amputations and treating bullet wounds - counts among one of the best equipped with portable X-ray machines, an operating theatre and scanners.
"This has left us completely gobsmacked. You prepare yourself for dealing with war wounded at Bastion - not a mother giving birth to a baby. It is the talk of the camp," an unnamed military source told the Daily Mail.Author:

7-Up Manager Dies In Hotel Room

The Human Resources Manager of 7-Up Bottling Company at its Benin City plant, Mr. Sola Mosiko, has collapsed  and died in a hotel room in Benin City, Edo State, Southsouth Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS investigation reveals that Mosiko, 53, had gone to the hotel with a lady called Amen, a security  guard at the company, to have fun when the tragedy occurred.
The lady was arrested by the police after she fled from the hotel room immediately her boss cum lover slumped  and was grasping for breath.
An  indigene of Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi State, Northcentral Nigeria, Mosiko called at the hotel with Amen after  the day’s work to relax and enjoy themselves.
However, a few hours after they checked into the hotel, the lady rushed out and was shouting for help. But  all efforts to resuscitate Mosiki proved abortive.
Amen was later arrested and handed over to the police at Ekiadolor Police Station, Benin City. She was  detained for three days after which she was released.
According to sources, Mosiko’s wife and children left Lagos for Benin City to spend their vacation with him  and on the night of the incident, his wife made several calls to his phone without any response. But the  following morning, the police used her husband’s phone to call and invite her to the hospital where Mosiko  was taken to.
A source said: “When Mrs. Mosiko’s phone rang in the morning, she felt something was amiss since she could  not sleep throughout the night while awaiting the arrival of her husband at home. She became more worried  when the caller, a policeman invited her to a hospital.
“Initially, she thought it was an accident. But she was shocked when she searched her dead husband’s body and  saw no wound. She was later informed that her husband died in a hotel.”
The corpse of the former manager was deposited at the mortuary.

A staff of 7-UP who spoke to P.M.NEWS on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.
Edo police Public Relations Officer, Anthony Airhuoyo, called the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of  Ekiadolor police station who confirmed the death of Mosiko, saying that the case was officially reported at  the station. He denied linking his death with his girlfriend, Amen.
“His death was not linked with the woman. He was only reported to have died of Sudden and Unnatural Death  (SUD),’” the DPO said.
He said no family member of Mr. Mosiko has come forward to indicate interest in pressing charges against  Amen.
An expert, who does not want his name mentioned, who commented on the incident, said for Mosiko to have died  of sudden and unnatural death was an indication that he either died of cardiac arrest or heart attack while  having sex with the girl. The police were also silent on his girlfriend.  But the case was not reported or  transferred to the Homicide Department at  the Police Command Headquarters in Benin, of the case even after  the incident was reported at Ekiadolor police station.

Arik Air Suspends Domestic Flights

040312F1.Arik-Air.jpg-040312F1.Arik-Air.jpgIt has been reported that Arik Air, the Senate Committee on Aviation’s recommended national carrier, this morning suspended all its flights out of Lagos leaving passengers at the Murtala Muhammed Airport stranded.

Several accounts of the cause of the suspension has been reported in the media. The Will  reports that all Arik Air flights have been grounded by labour unions over unpaid dues to them. It further stated that Aviation Union leaders and their members stormed the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport as early as this Thursday 20th September, 2012 to block the carrier from operating its normal flights out of Lagos.

In another report, Premium Times  said the flight suspended all its domestic operations due to the“persistent hostility of the Ministry of Aviation and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) management.”
The Airline’s claim of suspending its local operations differ from reports that the Airline was officially shut by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, over an N18 billion debt the airline owes the aviation authority.
Premium Times further noted that the action has affected the Abuja and Port-Harcourt Airports as well. Hundreds of passengers across the country are now stranded as a result of the suspension.
This news coming barely 24 hours after the Senate Committe on Aviation recommended the Airline as Nigeria’s national flag carrier has brought up heated debates.

A 28-year old actor, Bestwood Chukwuemeka, was on Monday sentenced to three-month imprisonment by a Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for having sexual intercourse with another man through the anus.
The convict, who resides at Gidan Mangoro, had pleaded guilty to having engaged in homosexual acts.
“I am guilty of the charge against me. I  was under the influence of alcohol and I want the court to temper justice with mercy’’, he said.
The police prosecutor, Mohammed Umar, had told the court that the convict committed the offence in August when the complainant was sleeping in his bed.
Homosexual acts, the prosecutor said, was contrary to Section 284 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor said since Mr. Chukwuemeka had pleaded guilty to the crime he initially denied, the court should try him summarily.
The Senior Magistrate, Nafisatu Buba, sentenced him to three-month imprisonment without an option of fine.
“This would serve as warning to other youths who hide under the influence of alcohol to commit crimes,’’ she said.
When he was first arraigned in early September, Mr. Chukwuemeka pleaded not guilty, saying, “I came back drunk from the night club and thought I was sleeping on the same bed with my girl-friend and I started romancing her.”
At that hearing, Mrs Buba, had ruled that alcohol should not be seen as an excuse for committing the offence, but then granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, with one of the sureties being a civil servant on Grade Level 09.
However, when the case was heard Monday, the actor suddenly pleaded guilty, and Mrs Buba summarily tried him, sentencing him to three-month imprisonment.
Homosexuality and lesbianism are seriously frowned at in Nigeria.
In November, the Nigerian Senate passed a strict law banning same-sex marriage and public display of affection by gays in Nigeria.
The bill – Same Sex Marriage (prohibition) bill 2011 – prescribes 14-year jail terms for convicted gays in Nigeria.
“Persons who entered into a same sex marriage contract or civil union commits an offence and are each liable on conviction to a term of 14 years imprisonment,” the new law said.

Nicki Minaj named 'American Idol' judge, gets $12M

Nicki Minaj named 'American Idol' judge

The Fox network officially tapped the pair with an announcement Sunday, confirming rumors surrounding them both just hours before the first round of auditions for next season was due to begin in New York.
Minaj is getting $12 million for a one-year deal on the hit Fox singing series, a person in the music industry with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the deal. A representative for Urban wouldn’t disclose the singer’s compensation for “Idol.”
Minaj, 29, is known for her colorful hairstyles, wardrobe and antics. A native of Trinidad who grew up in New York, she has scored with hits like “Starships,” ‘’Turn Me On,” and “Super Bass,” her seventh single, which has sold more than 4 million copies. Minaj said during the auditions she’ll be looking for “a superstar,” which, she explained, is “something that can’t be defined in words.” Jackson called this pair of hires a “fresh, fresh, fresh ‘Idol’ one-two!”
Minaj, he said, “brings a whole other cool vibe we’ve never had on the show, and Keith Urban? My God, he’s unbelievably talented!” When Carey was asked whether she had eagerly awaited news of who would join her as judges, she cracked that, no, she hadn’t, “because all I really care about is me,” but quickly added, “Only kidding.”
Turning serious, she said she didn’t know what kind of judge she would be. “Am I the mean one? Am I the nice one? ... It’s not about me, me, me, it’s about them (the contestants) and what I can bring to them to help guide them in the right direction,” said Carey.

SHOCKER: HOW UNILAG Girls Hijacked My Semen

My name is Niyi(not real name); a 200 level student of the University of Lagos, department of ermmm, I don’t think that information is necessary.
Well, I just want to share this particular experience with my fellow guys out there, some of us might have been victims of what I’m  about to share but have kept it as a secret because of the fear of what people might say.
Few weeks ago before the start of the 2nd semester examination, I went to read all night at the Akintunde Ojo Memorial Library, having played and partied all through the semester, I needed to get myself ready for the upcoming examination by doing some couple of overnight reading. At about 2am that night while reading, I needed to ease myself, so I went to the back of the library to urinate. As I was urinating I noticed a pretty fair chic leaning on the wall about 7 metres from me. I got a bit uncomfortable with the way she was watching me take a leak, I took my eyes off her before I finished urinating.
As I was walking back to the library, I heard a tiny sweet voice say HI, it had to be her, I couldn’t help but turn back and respond to her greeting.
As I walked towards her, I couldn’t help but admire her Mila kunis kind of eyes, her Kim Kardashian hips and what a view. In short this girl was the definition of HOT!!!! Her P needed to be set without hesitation was what I said in my mind before getting to her.
On getting to where she was standing I asked if she called me, she said yes and I asked why, she said she just felt like. I asked her what she was doing out there alone and she said she was reading in the library and came out to get some fresh air and she was a bit bored.
I need not dull this P that was right in front of me so I started conversing with her for like an hour before she started getting so close to me at that moment I knew she wanted some cuddling or smooching maybe because of the cold temperature at that time which made it worse as we were few metres away from the Lagoon front; we smooched a little and as it was getting intense I told her we should go somewhere else because of the people that will see us where we were.
I took her to Hell Fire (a coded place in Faculty of Engineering), we got there and continued and before I knew it she unzipped my trousers and brought out my d*** and put in her mouth. Damn! This was my best night ever in the University of Lagos campus. She sucked it like a professional then suddenly a girl showed up from nowhere, at that point I lost control of myself because I didn’t know what was happening, the new girl brought out a cup from her bag and when I was about to cum they both made sure my cum poured into the cup and the new girl took out an envelope from her bag and gave me. Immediately they left, I was shocked by what just happened and couldn’t do or say anything.
About three minutes after they left; I started realizing what had happened, then the envelope in my hand I opened it and the sum of #10,000 was contained in it.
Series of thoughts ran through my mind, crazy ones that I can’t list here. I’m sure as you reading this, lot of things would have gone through your mind with the exchange that happened. Since then I have not been myself, better I stop here but I just want my  fellow guys out there to learn a lesson from this experience of mine. God bless you all!!!

WONDER: Woman delivers horse in Edo church

The horse delivered by the woman in an Edo State church on Tuesday. Photo: Osagie OtaborWorshippers of the World Liberation Ministry located along old Sapele-Benin express road on Tuesday took to their heels during a prophesy programme when a female member delivered a horse.
The horse was however dead by the time Journalists visited the church.
It was gathered that the woman whose identity was not yet known started screaming during the prayer session and began to bleed from the vagina before the horse came out.
The General Overseer of the church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said he was still amazed at what came out of the woman.
He told Journalists that during prayers a revelation came that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb.
Silva said as prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.
The cleric said he couldn’t confirm whether the horse was dead or alive because he didn’t go near it.
“I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.
People rushed to the church to catch a glimpse of the horse when news of the delivery filtered into town.

WTF: Officials use ambulances for prostitutes

THE Eastern Cape department of health has vowed to take harsh action against employees found abusing ambulances. In some cases the critical medical vehicles have reportedly been used to transport prostitutes.
The department said corrupt officials were also using the fuel cards of damaged vehicles to buy fuel, despite the fact that these vehicles were out of service. Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said corruption cost the department money and at times the lives of patients.
“There are cases that we are investigating where we hear that ambulances are used to take prostitutes home and “out of commission” vehicles being refuelled every day,” he said. “This abuse needs to come to an end. This card scam is taking place all over the province and we are doing all we can to nab those who are involved in it.” The department was responding to paramedics who recently complained about a shortage of rescue vehicles.
Not to be confused with ambulances, rescue vehicles are mainly used to respond to emergencies where equipment such as the jaws of life, generators, spotlights and ropes are needed to extract victims from wrecks or mountainous areas. The paramedics complained that there was just one operational rescue vehicle to cover Mdantsane, King William’s Town, Bedford, Alice, Stutterheim, Cathcart, Keiskammahoek, Fort Beaufort, Adelaide and Peddie. They accused the department of ignoring their call for more vehicles, instead rolling out ambulances across the province.
Kupelo said the department was doing all it could but there were individuals who abused state vehicles for their own gains. Kupelo said investigations had found that:
  • A Matatiele ambulance was discovered in a village at night in Mthatha, having covered over 400km;
  • An ambulance was used by (paramedics) from Lusikisiki to pay tax in Mthatha last month;
  • A Port Elizabeth driver was dismissed in 2009 after he allegedly tried to rape a mother of a patient on their way to hospital;
  • In Mthatha, Mount Ayliff and Bizana petrol cards for out of commission vehicles were still being used; and
  • In Mthatha, Toyota Quantum vehicles are stripped of parts including mirrors, tyres and batteries.
“The ambulance will leave the depot with brand new tyres and when it comes back it has bald tyres... this is done by employees who are operating these ambulances, what must we do?” asked Kupelo. Department of Transport spokesman Ncedo Kumbaca yesterday lashed out at various government departments for being too slow in taking action against culprits.
“We supply the departments and they are the end users,” he said. “They are too slow to take action against those who have done wrong.” But Kupelo said disciplinary action was being taken against people found to be on the wrong side of the law.
“It must be clear though that this is done by certain individuals, not all the drivers. One other issue is the disrespect by motorists to ambulances in the Mthatha area, where motorists do not give way. This causes our vehicles to crash,” he said.

Serena Williams Defeats Victoria Azarenka for Fourth U.S. Open Title

Finally tested, even trailing, at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams turned things around just in time

Two points from defeat, Williams suddenly regained her composure and her game, coming back to win the last four games and beat No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall.

Williams improved to 26-1 since a first-round exit at the French Open in late May, winning Wimbledon and the London Olympics.
It was the first three-set women’s final in New York since 1995, and Williams came through with a late charge. She is the first woman to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same season since she did it a decade ago.

I love my colleague's wife

I love my wife more as a friend. She is a good homemaker and a wonderful mother, but she isn't that educated or sophisticated

I am 38 years old and my wife is 32. We have been married for six years and we have a five-year-old child. I love my wife, but I am starting to think I love her more as a friend. She is a good homemaker and a wonderful mother, but she isn't that educated or sophisticated. Over the years I have furthered my studies and because of my job I socialise a lot.
Most of the time my wife does not join me because I feel she might be uncomfortable and not know how to socialise. I feel as if I have moved forward and she has been left behind. I met a woman at a company functions. She is a colleague's wife. I know this sounds stupid, but I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her. She is beautiful, intelligent and sophisticated. She seemed to be very interested in me too and we spent most of the evening talking.
She gave me her cell number and said I should contact her. I thought this was an indication that she wanted to meet me again. I phoned her, but she either doesn't take my call or says she is in a meeting and can't speak. I am getting so frustrated. I want is to see her. I honestly believe we could have a future together.
What should I do?

Air Nigeria suspends operations, sacks staff

AIR Nigeria has announced the suspension of all its operations -local, regional and international – with effect from Monday, September10, 2012.

The suspension, according to the management of the frontline airline, is largely due to staff disloyalty and environmental tension, “which are not conducive for business in the aviation sector.”
In a statement yesterday, the management of the airline expressed regrets for any inconvenience the decision would cause its loyal passengers on all the routes and advised passengers to contact agents from whom they had purchased tickets for refunds.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the airline, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, OFR, said it was difficult to continue further investment in the airline, with the high level of staff disloyalty and weak business environment.
“But we are strongly committed to ensuring that Air Nigeria survives,” he added.

He said about 50 loyal staff from various departments of the airline had been selected with a mandate to recommence business within 12 months, while other staff had been relieved of their employment effective from the last day of work on their various routes.
Dr. Ibrahim thanked the stakeholders for their massive support in the last two years of the operation of Air Nigeria under the new management.

The corporate turn-around expert explained that the suspension of all the operations of Air Nigeria was not unusual.
According to him, “Corporations are like individuals who naturally will get sick and the usual thing to do is to admit them to hospitals, either for corporate surgery or for treatment, as the case may be. During such a period, it is not likely that they will work in full capacity, depending on the nature of the illness.”
The airline’s suspension of operations, he added, was not due to load factor, but largely to staff disloyalty and weak business environment.

TRUE CONFESSION: I hate sex with my husband

I don’t like sex and never really have. I’ve had plenty of it over the years, but have faked my enthusiasm. I can reach orgasm, but it’s a flutter, rather than an ecstatic peak. I’ve been with my husband for 12 years and we have two children, but I feel tense every time he makes love to me and can’t wait until it’s over. I haven’t told him how disengaged I feel, as I’m worried he’ll leave. What should I do?
